Okeechobee Correctional Institution Work Camp and Annex
Location: Okeechobee, Florida
Client: Florida Department of Corrections
Architect: Mark Soroko/Architect
This is a two phase project for the Florida Department of Corrections. Phase I consisted of a $10.9 million, 50,000 SF, prototype work camp. Completed in 2010, it included three housing units totaling 432 beds, food services, laundry, holding cells, yard rest rooms, and administrative facilities. Turbidity barriers, silt fences, and other pollution run-off prevention techniques were constructed and maintained throughout the construction process to protect surrounding wetlands. Phase I was successfully completed on time and $1.2 million under budget.
Phase II consists of a $77 million annex which includes inmate housing, intake, medical, program facilities, and an expansion of the existing water and waste-water treatment plant. This phase is on hold pending funding.
